Most people’s idea of rest is flawed.

They see rest as a moment of doing nothing and just letting time pass. They might take short breaks during the day, like a 15-minute break, and use that time to grab a coffee or scroll through social media. Or they might consider a weekend getaway as their way of resting.

But rest isn’t just filling time with distractions or escaping from routines.

You can be physically resting but that doesn’t mean your body and mind are in a relaxed state. Your mind can continue to race and when doing so can cause anxiety.

Rest is more than what you’re doing; it’s more about how you’re doing it. It has to be deliberate and purposeful rest to make sense.

Unfortunately, many people think that time off work for rest is a waste. But rest is something everyone of us needs because the dangers of not getting enough of it are enormous.
