How do you transform your life from mediocre to extraordinary? How do you go from being disengaged and unhappy to being motivated, engaged, and fulfilled?

Put simply: What makes your life feels great?

As it turns out, the answer is being able to satisfy three fundamental needs.

As Daniel Pink explains in his book, Drive: “We have three innate psychological needs…When those needs are satisfied, we’re motivated, productive, and happy.”

These needs are not just a “nice to have” thing, they’re a necessary conditions, a sort of cheat codes, for improved quality of life and well-being.

1. Need For Competence

Growth and constant improvement are critical human motivations. We’re wired for growth.

From the day we’re born, we continue to evolve throughout our lifetime.

Who you are today will be drastically different from who you’ll become 5 or 10 years from now. Your “future self” is a better, more skilled, and improved version of you.
