Your Risk of Dementia Goes Up By 28% If You Drink This Much Coffee

A study explains what you need to know about taking too much coffee

Nearly 60% of all Americans drink coffee daily, with the average person drinking at least two cups per day. But how many cups of coffee should you really drink in one day?

While there isn’t one set answer to this question, researchers have found that drinking the right daily amount can help keep dementia in check.

Take a recent study published in PLOS Medicine and led by Yuan Zhang and his team from Tianjin Medical University, China.

This team followed more than 365,000 people between the ages of 50 and 74 for more than 10 years.

When the study started, participants reported how much coffee they drank in a day. But by the end of the study period, a total of 5,079 participants had developed dementia.

Drinking at least 2–3 cups per day lowered the risks of dementia by 28% compared to those who don’t drink at all.
