Sitting Long Hours Can Harm Your Health (This Is How You Avoid It)

Most people maintain lifestyles that are harmful to health. This is partly because they hardly make time to get physically active. Plus, their jobs make them sit for nearly 10–15 hours every day. It’s either they’re sitting in their cars or office desks or in front of the TV all day.

The truth is sitting for a long time might seem harmless on the surface. But over time, it is bad for the body and brain, and may even lead to death.

In a recent study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, researchers found that sitting down for more than 7-hours increased the risk of brain-related diseases, especially Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Also, the Life Span Fitness website shows that in the US alone, 300,000 deaths occur every year due to physical inactivity and that an estimated $24 billion is lost to direct medical spending due to a sedentary lifestyle.

Sitting causes obesity as fat accumulates in the body, thus increasing the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes as well as diabetes.
