If you find yourself in a dark room and want to avoid tripping over something, what do you do?

You ask yourself, “Where’s the light?” Then you go ahead and turn it on.

It’s such a basic process that you’d expect anyone to do it. But guess what? When it comes to many life situations, most people choose to play the ostrich instead of asking themselves questions.

They get stuck in autopilot mode, where they keep doing the same thing over and over, even if it’s not making their lives any better.

You can’t make progress if you’re shying away from confronting the situation you’re in.

If you don’t accept that something is wrong, you’ll find it difficult to contemplate a way of fixing it.

Psychologist Angela Kelly echoed this when she said, “The growth path begins with an unwavering willingness to embrace our vulnerabilities and confront our own realities.”

Things hardly change on their own. Your life won’t magically fix itself. You have to take the steps and do what needs to be done.

And that only happens if you start asking yourself why things are not working the way they’re supposed to.
