In a world in which getting ahead in life and career depends on your relationships, people’s perceptions can make a huge difference.

Many people aren’t as self-aware as they think they are. They don’t give much thought to understanding themselves, how they fit into the world, and how other people perceive them.

The truth is people judge you. They form opinions about your character and personality. They care about the real you, especially if they’re interested in working with you, either personally or professionally.

Do you come across as laid-back, stiff, arrogant, and brash? Or as detailed, careful, trustworthy, and kind?

It turns out, however, that people only need to pay attention to some rather surprisingly little things to get all the information they need to make a fairly accurate judgment about you.

How you talk to people

The way you talk says a lot about who you are. People can figure out what they need to know about your character, and personality by how you talk.

When you talk, you can come across as unthinking, condescending, proud, brash, and self-centered. Or as respectful, polite, and empathetic.
