The Harsh Lessons I Learned From Losing My Mom to Death

On Sunday, May 1st, 2023, at 2:13 am, I watched as my mother struggled with death and eventually took her last breath.

My younger brother and I had gone to the village on Thursday, April 27 to visit her. We meet her healthy and lively, and spent time together as a family.

However, in the early hours of Saturday, she slipped into a coma and was taken to the hospital. She was put on oxygen and nurses and doctors made frantic efforts to get her back to consciousness before she eventually passed away.

While her death was unexpected and shocking, I am grateful that I was able to be with her during her final moments.

I am happy I was there when she died. She was a great mom. She was loving. Her death was, as sports people would say, against the run of play. But it’s taught me some vital lessons.

There’s so much we can’t control

As I reflect on the passing of my beloved mother, one thing stands out: there are so many things in life we simply cannot control.
