Getting people to take you seriously is critical to your personal and professional success.

If you’re going to get anywhere in your career and business, you need others to trust you and take you seriously.

This is because people who take you seriously recognize your value; they respect and trust you; they know what you bring to the table; and they want to be as close to you as possible.

So how do you make this happen?

Approach Every Interaction With Humility

If you want to connect with people and earn their respect, you need to approach every interaction with humility.

Humility isn’t about downplaying yourself; it’s more about thinking of yourself less.

Humble people are confident in themselves, their strengths, and their achievements, but they also know that they’re just like everyone else, with faults, shortcomings, and failures.

It’s about showing others that you don’t have all the answers and are open to learning from them.

This way, you can relate to other people without trying to prove to them that you’re smart or that you have a perfect life.

People connect with authenticity and vulnerability. The average person has gone through some negative experiences that they’re not proud of. They’re dealing with the same fears, struggles, and concerns as you.

By showing humility, being willing to acknowledge your own struggles, and talking about them, you can create a safe space for others to do the same.

Most people can’t do this because it exposes them to uncomfortable emotions like embarrassment, grief, shame, and rejection.

But it’s exactly what makes humility infectious and one of the most effective ways you can break down people’s defenses, win them over, and get them to take you seriously.
