4 Ways You Can Build a New Habit And Make it Stick

Turn your regular “should dos” into “already done!”

Building a new habit requires two things: first deciding to do the behavior and then actually doing it.

I’ve tried my hand at building lots of new and different good habits over the years — habits I hope will improve my life, help me strengthen my business, and enjoy a more rewarding day-to-day experience.

A few of those habits I’ve worked to develop include: writing, stretching, journaling, meditation, reading the Bible every morning, praying, fasting, networking on LinkedIn, and so on. I could double the list if I gave it some thought.

But here’s the thing; some of these habits have stuck and some haven’t. And whether habits are helpful or harmful, when they finally stick, you do them automatically without thinking.

However, one of the reasons they haven’t all stuck is that there are too many of them. I have about five hours of daily habits listed there. Add in a four- to six-hour workday and time for meals, and things start to get pretty crowded.

But it’s interesting which habits have stuck and for how long.
