A few days ago, I came across a Facebook reel about two kids, a boy and a girl, no older than four years old.

The boy is strolling along, minding his own business when he crosses paths with the girl. She’s clutching a stick in her hands, totally engrossed in her playtime.

But then, out of nowhere, she unleashes a swift strike with the stick, hitting the boy on the head. It’s a shocking moment.

Most kids would have reacted with equal, if not greater, force. But not this boy. He picks up the same stick and winds up, ready to give the girl a taste of her own medicine.

But just as he was about to strike, something happened. It’s like he suddenly realizes the weight of his actions and decides to take the high road. He puts down the stick, shoots the girl a piercing stare, and walks away, fuming.

I went down to the comments, and it was wild over the boy's “self-control.” People were praising him for his maturity. I have to admit, seeing such restraint in someone so young is pretty impressive.

It got me thinking. What exactly is self-control? How does it shape our lives? What do we do…
