Largest Study Links Coffee To Long Life

New research unravels impact of coffee on longevity

Drinking two to three cups of coffee a day has been found to increase lifespan and lower the risk of heart disease compared with avoiding coffee.

According to a new large-scale study published on September 27, 2022, in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, a team of researchers led by Professor Peter Kistler of the Baker Heart and Diabetes Research Institute, Australia, “ground, instant, and decaf coffee were associated with equivalent reductions in the risk of cardiovascular disease and death from any other causes.”

The researchers used 12.5 years medical, death, and dietary records of 450,000 people between 40 to 69 years of age drawn from the UK Biobank.

At the start of the study, all participants were tested free of any cardiovascular disease, which is comprised of coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, and ischaemic stroke.

Participants then completed a questionnaire asking how many cups of coffee they drank each day and whether they usually drank instant, ground (such as cappuccino or filtered coffee), or decaffeinated coffee. They were then grouped into six daily intake categories: no-drinkers, less than one, one, two to three, four to five, and more than five…
