Friends can make or break you.

If you bring the wrong person too close and let them in on everything about your life, they may become jealous and plot your downfall.

A good friend, however, will keep your secrets, support you, and cheer you on every step of the way.

It can be difficult to know if someone is a genuine friend or if they’re just mouthing it. People lie about who they are.

The key is to look at what they do. The signs are often hidden there, even if they are subtle.

Here are seven signs someone might not be the friend they want you to believe they are.

1. They Participate in Negative Attacks Against You.

I noticed a friend who will often jump on negative comments on my posts on Facebook to give them more visibility.

At first, I didn’t take it seriously, but it gradually became obvious that this guy has an agenda. I had to block him.

If someone often hides behind others to show their bad intentions toward you by either supporting or participating in negative attacks against you, they’re your friend at heart.
