A healthy mouth and clean teeth can be one of the most important assets. For over 37% of people, the first thing they notice about you is your smile, which is why keeping those teeth looking healthy should be a priority.

But more than aesthetics, dental health is a big part of our overall health and quality of life. Sadly, about 3.5 billion people globally have dental health issues, including tooth decay.

An unhealthy mouth is a worrying health risk, and certain habits contribute to harm your teeth. Here are five you need to quit fast.

1. You Don’t Brush and Floss Regularly

One everyday habit that harms your teeth and cause tooth decay is not brushing and flossing regularly.

Poor oral hygiene which includes not brushing and flossing regularly contributes to about 90% of all dental problems, according to the WHO.

Brushing your teeth removes plaque and food particles from the surfaces of your teeth. Flossing, on the other hand, removes plaque and food particles from between your teeth and under the gumline, areas your toothbrush can’t reach.
