One of the things I learned about people is that not everyone who offers to help will follow through.
We all know this.
But when you need help and someone promises to assist, you really want to believe they’ll keep their word, even if it’s just giving you false hope.
Knowing when someone won’t follow through on their offer to help can save you from disappointment. Here are a few things to know about fake help.
Fake help is nonspecific
One way to spot fake help is that it is unspecified and lacks detail.
For example, someone might say, “Let me know if you need anything,” but don’t specify what they can actually do for you.
When I got fired, I told my friends and they said things like: “Sorry to hear this Mong. Let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.”
On the surface, it sounded nice, but it’s mostly fake.
Nobody said, “Let me ask my boss if there’s a vacancy,” or “let me know if you need some money to hold up until you’re back on your feet.”
